We are looking for a Chocolatier Apprentice
About the Company:
Corey’s Chocolate is a small family-owned and operated chocolate business based out of our commercial kitchen in Longmont, CO. We have been in business since 2018 and sell our products at farmers markets and live shows throughout Northern Colorado. We have a passion for producing delicious, premium chocolate treats and confections and have amassed an adoring fan base for our products over the years.
We launched our business out of our home facility as regulated under cottage food law, though we have been growing steadily and recently moved into a commercial kitchen. This paid apprenticeship is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring chocolatier, confectioner, and/or pastry chef to hone their craft under the guidance of a seasoned chocolatier and entrepreneur.
About the Role:
Title: Chocolatier Apprentice
This a part-time, contract position - with potential to move to full time
This is a great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of chocolatiering and confection production
There is opportunity for career growth within the company as we scale our production and facilities
This is a seasonal contract to start immediately and going through the end of the year
You will be working primarily on a team of two, under the supervision and guidance of our executive chocolatier
Contract starts at $18/hour with opportunity to increase as skill level and experience increase
Shifts will be approximately 8 hours long, 2 days per week, Weds & Thurs
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a desire to learn how to make chocolate and confections
A background in confections and/or pastries, or attended/currently enrolled in a culinary program
Attention to detail, and able to follow precise instructions and recipes and log production
Able to lift 40+ lbs, including ability to lift and pour heavy stock pots full of toffee/caramel alone
Reliable transportation to and from East Longmont
In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles in regards to food preparation
Capable of working in a fast-paced production environment
Able to pass a background check
Responsibilities:
Assist in the production of chocolate and confections and learn product recipes to produce all products unassisted
Log all production in designated batch log
Oversee and perform all maintenance and safety aspects of production, including cleaning and disinfecting premises, equipment and materials, and verifying the correct operation of equipment and safety devices
Quality control, including checking the conformity of raw materials and products throughout the manufacturing process, as well as weights and quantities, and the appearance of finished products
Learn the principles of confection/chocolate making
Flexibility to perform other tasks related to the business (may include packaging and labeling product, transportation of goods)
Assist in documentation of all processes relating to roles and responsibilities
Expectations:
Arrive to work in a clean uniform, adhering to safe kitchen dress code (chef coat, hair back/covered, closed toed kitchen shoes, well-groomed)
Arrive on time for scheduled shifts
Follow operational procedures exactly as documented in operations manual
Complete tasks in an effective and timely manner
Have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and to work hard
